Question
I'm logged into my academic network using VPN. Performing an academic license check at www.limitstate.com/academic-licensing shows that an academic license is available for my institution, but I can't get a license. What might be the problem?
Solution
The most likely issue is that the institution is using a 'split tunnelling' system for VPN, where some programs and apps connect to the internet through the university network and others through the user's own network. This can cause LimitState software to be seen as sending license requests from outside a University network, while web browsers are seen as being inside them.
To rectify this, it's generally required that the network administrator ensures that the LimitState software being used accesses the following page from a University network IP address: http://acad.limitstate.com
