Issue
Some users have reported instances of the license server believing that a license is checked out to a particular client - even when this client has closed the software (leading to a -22 Error). This tends to occur when the client is set to auto-hibernate or is using a VPN connection that is terminated in a way that server is unable to resolve.
Question
Can I set a timeout on network licenses, so that they are returned if there's inactivity on the client?
Answer
Yes, you can set a TIMEOUT or TIMEOUTALL value (the difference being that the latter would timeout licenses for any software under the control of the RLM service). This should cause the license to be retrieved by the server if it has not heard from the client in a certain amount of time. This has been tested in "non virtual" environments at LimitState.
To set the timeout:
1. Open the web interface e.g. localhost:5054/home.asp
2. Go to Status and click the button beneath OPTIONS
3. In the "ISV limitstate options" text field enter: TIMEOUTALL <num_seconds> where <num_seconds> is a value you feel to be appropriate (minimum 3600). For example "TIMEOUTALL 7200" would revoke licenses after 2hrs of inactivity
4. Click the button to Update Options (if an options file does not already exist, one will be generated)
5. Click Reread/Restart Servers > REREAD/RESTART to force the timeout to be accepted
